Introduction
Downwell Group are a leading provider of demolition, enabling works and remediation solutions, committed to sustainability and operational excellence. With multiple teams working across various sites, ensuring adequate welfare facilities was essential. Downwell sought an environmentally friendly solution that would provide essential amenities while aligning with their sustainability initiatives.

The Requirement
On-site welfare is critical for maintaining workforce efficiency, health and compliance. Traditional diesel-powered welfare units resulted in high fuel costs and carbon emissions, which contradicted Downwell Group’s environmental commitments. They required a modern, efficient alternative that provided sanitation, canteen space, drying facilities and office accommodation while reducing their carbon footprint.
The Solution
To meet their needs, Downwell Grouppartnered with ecowelfare to deploy multiple fully solar-powered welfare units, including 12ft units with a canteen, single toilet and drying room, as well as 24ft units featuring a canteen, office space and twin toilets. These units provided essential facilities for their teams while reducing reliance on fossil fuels, cutting costs and enhancing site sustainability.
The Conclusion
- Zero fuel costs – Fully solar-powered, eliminating reliance on diesel.
- Over 266 litres of fuel saved – Reducing operational expenses and environmental impact.
- More than 843kg of CO2 emissions avoided – Supporting Downwell Group’s sustainability goals.
- Improved workforce welfare – Providing comfortable, well-equipped spaces tailored to different site requirements.
