We want to recruit an experienced Transport Controller to join our team based near Chelmsford.

With a fleet of over 60 vehicles and more than 5,000 portable toilets across multiple depots, the role involves working in our Service Operations group, planning transport routes and allocating toilet services, deliveries and collections to our Service teams using our planning software tools.

As one of a team of Transport Controllers, you will report to the Service Manager. You will manage the transport activities of service drivers, controlling their activity each day to maintain the highest levels of customer service. This will involve working with our sales and customer service teams, as well as depot managers, to resolve issues as they arise and ensure completion of work in accordance with company policy.

About You

  • Minimum 1 year experience in similar role/environment.
  • Transport and logistics sector experience preferable.
  • Must be IT literate and able to use tools such as Word, Excel etc.
  • Good administrative competence essential.
  • An adaptable customer-oriented attitude is required.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced-environment, and to prioritise tasks as needed.
  • Can work confidently using own initiative, with a flexible, 'can-do' attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Please note: Due to the location of our offices, your own transport is necessary for this role.

The Transport Control and Customer Service teams are key to successfully delivering service operations in line with customer requirements and allocating staff and vehicle resources effectively across the company.

a) The Transport Control team (4 people plus a team lead) plan and organise the work of over 50 service drivers operating from 7 depots nationwide. Day to day, they control the service operations out on the road, working with operation management to deal with issues as they arise.

b) The Customer Service team (3 people plus a team lead) respond to inbound enquiries from customers about their portable toilet hires and servicing. They work with the Transport Control team to resolve the issues arising and to rectify any problems. Customer Service also pro-actively contact customers to discuss how to overcome problems identified by service operations which may be preventing job completion and undertake customer satisfaction surveys.

The Team Leads supervise each team, organising and dealing with daily activities. They report to the Service Manager.

The Service Manager is responsible for ensuring the Transport Control and Customer Service teams work effectively to meet objectives, working with the team leads to shape the overall activity, reporting on KPI and achievement against targets for customer service and satisfaction.

Good experience and understanding of transport logistics is preferable.
