Portable Toilets For The Homeless

In the city of Manteca in California, a councilwoman named Debby Moorhead thinks it’s time the City give some serious thought to renting portable toilets with hand wash stations in order to provide hygienic sanitation facilities for the growing epidemic of homelessness.

As opposed to running away from arguably one of the biggest issues in the states to date, Moorhead and her fellow councilmen are facing the problems head on, as opposed to believing they can simply ignore it until it goes away. They understand only too well that the homeless problem can pose serious issues as well as niggling issues when it comes to the quality of life for the community. They also realise, thankfully, that no matter how far some people have fallen, they’re still people who need to be taken care of.

Recognising the city’s needs, Moorhead’s idea for portable toilets would see portable toilets placed at strategic locations throughout the city. This would minimise the amount of money needed from the taxpayer but would mean that those in need would get the use out of them as much as possible. While it may not happen tomorrow, it’s certainly something that could start happening in the very near future as the California Legislature gets pushed into doing something within the communities. While mandatory drop-in centres for the homeless is of course high up on the list, strategically placed portable toilets are certainly a worthy idea if anything else.

How Would Portable Toilets Benefit?

The question many are asking is just how portable toilets would actually benefit? Well, it may be worth asking yourself where the homeless actually relieve themselves when they don’t have the luxury of their own toilet? While this act could so easily be turned upon them for defecating in a public area, is it really their fault that one of the very basic human needs has been taken from them in times of trouble?

It isn’t just the homeless who’ve shown themselves to be ‘problematic’ shall we say in keeping our streets free from excrement. Take a look around your local high street on any weekend and notice the myriad of men and women defecating in the nearest alleyway or street corner they can find.

Could portable toilets, hired by the council, be the perfect solution to keeping our streets clean? Could this provide the basic needs of human beings who’ve fallen on hard times? We certainly think it’s a fantastic idea that’s likely to be rolled out in the City of Manteca and what’s more, we think it would be a fantastic idea to see rolled out in the cities up and down the UK too. From London to Manchester and more.
