Manchester Reports A Building Boom!
Recent reports have shown a huge building boom in Manchester and Leeds. The building boom is currently at record levels according to the most recent Deloitte crane survey. While confidence in other cities has faltered somewhat, Manchester is undergoing what can only be described as a serious boom in residential buildings. In fact, 2019 looks set to see a whopping 15,000 units being built which is double the statistics of just two years ago.
As well as residential construction taking place, the city also has over 2 million square feet of office space currently under construction too. This is an accumulation of over 13 different projects taking place at one time; over a quarter of which are pre-lets. That’s pretty impressive for the city 200 miles up the M6. To really put things into perspective, Simon Bedford, partner and regional head at Deloitte Real Estate said: “If Manchester had featured in the recently published North American Crane Index, it would have ranked no.2 – behind Toronto yet in front of Seattle, Los Angeles and Chicago.
“That might have seemed like a remarkable stat a few years ago given that Manchester only had one crane in the sky in 2011 but today the figure is a massive 78 sites under construction.”
