Septic Tanks Explained

Septic tank overview

In basic terms a septic tank collects wastewater from your home or business premises if you are not connected to a mains sewage system. The septic tank allows the wastewater to break down naturally, separating the solids so that the resulting liquid can then be treated or removed.

Septic tanks use bacteria to break down solid waste discharged from your home, multiple homes, or business premises. Typically, a septic tank is constructed of two or three chambers that breakdown solids into sludge with any remaining wastewater discharged into a soakaway system.

Your septic tank should be emptied or de sludged very year or in line with manufacturers recommendations to avoid any issues that can often be disruptive and often costly.

If you do not empty your septic tank once per year or in line with manufacturers recommendations, then disruptive and costly issues will eventually follow.

Also, if your home or premises are not connected to a mains sewage system you are legally bound to adhere to government regulations, failure to do so may lead to prosecution. Remember, if your septic tank is not maintained properly, there is a potential of sewage leaking into your local water course and polluting the environment and harming the local habitat.

The important stuff

As the homeowner and premises or property owner you are responsible for emptying of your septic tank and the safe and legal disposal of any waste removed.

Even if you are not going to be in, if we can access your tank within 30 metres of where our 32 tanker can safely and legally park on hard standing then there should be no reason why we can’t empty if you are not there.

If you have just moved into a property with a septic tank and have never had to empty a septic tank before, do not worry, we can help you book an empty quickly with no hassle or fuss, just call or click to speak to our friendly team.

Septic tank sewage waste will be removed by our fully trained and experience tanker driver who will safely and legally dispose of your waste at your local license sewage treatment plant.

We always advise taking advantage of our annual septic tank emptying service to avoid unnecessary or un expect call outs, although we can usually provide emergency same day or next day septic tank emptying. However, our standard lead time to empty is within 7 days.
