Changing Places Toilet Map

It’s been a very big year for toilets with rather big jobs taking place up and down the country, including ourselves here at euroloo securing a fantastic deal with LEFPA (have we mentioned that before? We’re not sure…) but there was one such point in the year that proved to be huge for everyone. As they say, one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind and such a step was most definitely taken in November when the British Toilet Association launched the Changing Places Toilet Map.

Changing places toilets were designed especially for those with profound and multiple learning difficulties that more often than not require specialised toilet equipment such as hoists, screens, sharps disposal and even height adjustable beds. The changing places toilets were therefore created of sufficient size to allow for wheelchairs and up to two adults to move freely within them. The majority are protected by Radar key entry or a local control and in just a few years since it’s start up, the Charter Group saw the number of Changing places toilets rise to a whopping 784 across the whole of the UK. At present, it would appear they’re increasing steadily by around 10 to 15 per month too. As well as the British Cleaning Council giving the initial start up grant to begin construction of the toilets, Velocity 42, Mencap and Pamis have all been instrumental in the process of creating a new mapping system.

The British Toilet Association will now be managing the expansion of the new system, ensuring all information is up to date and accurate allowing those that need to use the service can locate their nearest toilet with ease. The new Changing Places Toilet Map system now allows users to register all of their personal details and subsequently save their favourite toilets to use for future reference. On top of this, the 19th November launch (World Toilet Day) saw the introduction of a trip planner, which greatly helped carers and support groups plan for extended journeys. The new database is even working toward tackling areas that have a low frequency of toilets or lack them altogether. More-importantly, the map is now accessible via your desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone so no matter where you are, you’re now able to find your nearest toilet with ease.

For access to the Changing Places Toilet Map, you simply need to visit www.changing-places.org and follow it through to the Find a Toilet tab. As well as this, you can also gain access via the British Toilet Association website too. With plans now fully established to enhance the map even further as well as increase the information that’s available to users, it’s no wonder this was such a pinnacle point in the world of toilets for 2015.
