While construction work is always taking place in London, after a pretty heavy recession, it certainly reduced. In 2018 however, it would appear to be turning around with huge projects taking place all over the city. How do we know this? Well, as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of portable toilets, our portable toilet hire services in London are going through the roof. While there is of course regular construction work going on, there are also some pretty huge projects taking place. Let’s take a look at how London’s horizon will be changing over the coming years.
First and foremost, the City of London Corporation has granted planning permission for the “Cheesegrater 2” building, otherwise known as 100 Leadenhall. A Hong Kong development company, Lai Sun Development have finally secured the go-ahead for the 56 storey skyscraper set to change London’s horizon forever and will be the tallest building in the Square Mile. To make way for the development, 100, 106 and 107 Leadenhall Street will be demolished paving the way for 102,000sq m of office space as well as retail space and what is guaranteed to be a spectacular viewing gallery on the 55th and 56th floors.
If that wasn’t enough, the student accommodation specialists Unite Living will be back in London developing a 1000 room scheme on the edge of the city. Totalling a whopping £195m, the project planned for Middlesex Street, close to Aldgate Underground Station will mean demolishing a substation before constructing an 18, 21 and 24 storey building with basement. The new scheme planned by Architecture PLB will be enveloped in brick, with an alternation in buff and dark brick for a stunning visual effect. The tallest point of the building will be 87m. With Unite’s team including the Walsh Group and Applied Energy, it looks set to be a huge team involved.
Kier will also be getting involved in a £36m redevelopment, as appointed by Nuffield Health, redeveloping the former pathology and residential staff quarters at St Bart’s Hospital in London. The new unit will be transformed into a private healthcare unit, specifically cardiac. The 48-bed facility will house four new operating theatres as well as 28 consultation rooms. They’ll also be space created specifically for physiotherapy as well as diagnostic and health assessments. Construction looks set to begin this month with completion in 2021.
