Introduction
Pre-Construct Archaeology (PCA) has been delivering high-quality, client-focused heritage services across the UK since 1993. As one of the country’s largest and most experienced providers of professional archaeology and heritage solutions, we are committed to delivering projects that meet the highest standards – on time, on budget, and with a flexible, tailored approach.

The Requirement
To meet its high standards for both workforce welfare and environmental responsibility PCA needed welfare units that could provide essential amenities such as a toilet, dry room and canteen without relying on diesel fuel. Reducing carbon emissions, cutting fuel consumption and lowering running costs were all key priorities.
The Solution
In response to these requirements, ecowelfare supplied PCA with a 12ft solar-powered welfare unit. Fully off-grid and self-sufficient, the unit includes a canteen, dry room, and toilet – delivering all the necessary facilities while significantly cutting environmental impact and fuel-related costs.
The Conclusion
- Zero fuel consumption – The unit is fully powered by solar energy, eliminating diesel use entirely.
- Over 76 litres of fuel saved – Contributing to lower running costs and operational efficiency.
- More than 243kg of CO₂ emissions avoided – Helping PCA stay aligned with its sustainability commitments.
- Improved welfare for on-site teams – Comfortable, modern facilities with zero compromise on quality.
