What To Do If You Lose Water Pressure

Have you found yourself with low pressure or worse still, no water at all? Then read on and check out these steps as instructed by the experts at Thames Water. These will give you the best possible chance of resolving the problem quickly.

Investigate Further

While you may only be aware of a problem in your home or office, it’s worth jumping online to check if there are any incidents in your area. Are there problems along your entire street or estate perhaps? As well as checking the online interactive map over at Thames Water, you can also check social media and your subsequent local community pages. These will usually give you a good idea if something’s arisen without you even having to leave your house.

Ask The Neighbours

If there’s not an issue with your neighbour, providing you live relatively close together, then chances are it’s a problem with your internal plumbing. If you live in an apartment building then check with building maintenance for any internal issues that may already be known to them.

If however, you find your neighbours also have a problem but it isn’t on the Thames Water interactive map, then it may well be an issue they haven’t been made aware of yet. A quick call to Thames Water to let them know not only allows them to update their map for others but also allows them to begin investigating the issue straight away.

Check Those Taps

If you’ve asked around and it doesn’t appear to be affecting anyone else, it’s a good idea to check your cold kitchen taps or utility room. If you find water comes out of the tap from here but not your shower or bathroom then the problem is likely to be internal as opposed to external.

If All Else Fails…

It’s a little like that moment when we think our vacuum cleaner has broken until we rather quietly and discreetly check that it’s switched on at the plug…your internal stop valves need to be fully open. If they aren’t, you’ll be struggling to receive any water through those taps. If the valves are closed, turn them anti-clockwise and ensure they’re fully open. Do this with your external stop valves also. Last but not least, check the likelihood that your pipes may be frozen. Have you recently experienced a deep freeze? Temperatures like this could lend itself to burst pipes and more.

If you’ve gone through the steps above and found yourself to be without water and still unaware of what to do, we suggest giving Thames Water a call on 0800 316 9800 today. You may also want to consider the use of a portable toilet should your home be without water for a prolonged period of time.
