Here at euroloo, we’re offering OAP discounts for septic tank emptying in order to do our bit for those who have dedicated their lives to ensure we were safe and well raised. Before we explain more about our discount however, we’d first like to highlight just why it’s so important that we’re offering this discount.
Living on a low income is hard work. Living on a low income in later life is even harder. Every penny matters and every penny must be watched. From food shopping to household bills. These suddenly become luxuries as even a gas bill has to be saved for. Things like meals out become a thing of the past as simply getting through the month without having your electricity cut off becomes the priority. The harsh realities of a low income in later life are made public as more and more stories emerge of OAP’s having their heating cut off, or food cupboards appearing bare.
While the number of pensioners living in poverty has indeed fallen over the last ten years, there are still a whopping 1.6 million pensioners still living in poverty. To really bring it to your attention, just take a peek at the following stats:
- One in seven pensioners are living in poverty, defined as having incomes of less than 60% of the median income after housing costs.
- 2 million pensioners have incomes just above the poverty line.
- Low income in retirement is linked to earlier low pay or a time out of employment due to caregiver responsibilities, maternity or even disability.
- Women are more likely to be in poverty than men as well as single pensioners.
Given the sheer amount of poverty being suffered by so many OAP’s in this country, it’s even more surprising that so many are missing out on entitlements and we’re not talking about a few thousand pounds. The Government recently estimated that between 2014-2015, £3.5 billion of low income benefits went unclaimed. That’s a lot of utility bills that could have been paid. This is undoubtedly due to a combination of reasons including a complete lack of knowledge, and a total assumption they simply aren’t entitled to anything.
Thankfully, fantastic organisations such as Age UK are putting efforts toward halving pensioner poverty by doing what they can to ensure all those deserving support are receiving it. In the meantime, here at euroloo, we’d also like to do our bit too and help ensure the necessities get taken care of for every OAP and we’re doing this by offering an OAP discount on septic tank emptying. For OAP’s living with septic tanks, annual emptying can become an annual payment they just want to avoid but with £10 off, we’re hoping it makes things much more affordable. If you’d like to take advantage of our offer, or perhaps you know someone who could enjoy our offer, then please do get in touch. Ensuring your septic tank is in full working order (over winter especially) is not only imperative but it’s also the best way to avoid costly repair bills and added stress down the line.
